The NV Extra Brut L’Ascendant, Mouzon-Leroux’s solera-styled blend, is bright and focused from start to finish. Dried citrus peel, almond, spice, chamomile and dried flowers are beautifully delineated. The blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, 50% 2017 and 50% 2016 and 2014, so more of a multi-vintage blend than a true perpetual reserve or solera. Perhaps because of the base vintage or the low dosage (1 gram per liter), this edition feels a bit narrow, especially on the mid-palate and finish. -VINOUS Nov 2023
