The grapes were fully destemmed, with 10-20% stems added back for texture and aromatics. In small opent top fermenters, the grapes were gently punched down 1-2 times a day during a 3 week native yeast fermentation. The wine was aged for 11 months in a mix of neutral 500L French oak puncheons and smaller barrels. Bottled unfined & unfiltered.
A new cuvée in 2018, the North Coast Cabernet comes from grapes grown in 3 cool climate coastal sites and bottled to capture the energy and freshness of its youth. A juicy core of pure, joyous cherry fruit is balanced with mild herbal notes and a gentle stony texture. This wine is vibrant and alive and though it does not need to be cellared to enjoy, it will certainly benefit should you be so inclined.
Winemaker John Lockwood suggests that this wine be drunk in the presence of laughter, and we agree wholeheartedly.
