100% Godello. 75+ year old vines.
This is produced from old vines growing in small pezas (plots) in and around the tiny village of Portela. The vines were planted by Jose Ramon Gayoso’s sons using a massal selection from the historic Pedrouzos vineyard that their father planted in 1885 and to this day are farmed by hand using no chemicals or systemic fertilizers.
The crop from each peza is fermented and aged separately in neutral oak barrels for 6 months before the best lots are assembled and aged in stainless steel tanks for 1 year. The resulting wine is shows some exotic Godello and citrus notes on the nose, which lead into a medium bodied wine laced with minerals, plump fruit and great tension. It is long and persistent and possesses the texture and tension found only in great white wines.
