Vineyard: Amador County, Sierra Foothills-Quartz and Blue Schist Soils. High up in the Sierra foothills, Shake Ridge has quickly become one of the most famous vineyards in California, due to its cool high-altitude nights, rocky soils and impeccable farming.
Vinification: 50% Whole Cluster co-fermented with 5% Graciano for brightness, this wine follows the classic Rioja model. The bunches were partially de-stemmed then foot-tread and punched down once daily during the native yeast fermentation. Aged for 22 months in neutral barrels. 20% American oak. Un-fined & unfiltered.
A Tempranillo of remarkable elegance, translucence and purity that plays between worlds-savory & sweet, light & dark, this is dark, spicy and roasty while remaining silky and elegant. A quick decant will reward in kind and help show off the aromatics of juniper, black cherry, roasted toffee and some chocolate notes.
