Only 10% of the Txakolina growing region is planted to the red Hondarrabi Beltza grape and most of that is used to produce rosé. In certain riper vintages, this grape, grown on the terraced slopes overlooking the Bay of Biscay between San Sebastian and Bilbao, produces a red wine of note.
Drawing from the mineral laced soils and salty sea breezes, this wine shows cool blue fruit aromatics with tense acidity and gentle herbal aromatics. The dark, ripe fruit aromatics show a gritty texture that make this wine particularly food friendly, even spicy food.
