From the original vineyard plots planted in the late 1800’s in the villages of Corgomo and Portela, these are the oldest Godello vines in the world. Planted on south-facing slopes on the north banks of the Sil river, the average elevation is 300 meters. Soils are Colluvial derived from grey schist. All vineyard work is done by hand in these steep plots.
After de-stemming and crushing, the juice is left on the skins for 6 hours before pressing. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with only wild indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on its lees (thus its name) for 6 months where they are stirred weekly.
High-toned citrus and stone fruit aromatics with floral and mineral tinges make this a very intriguing wine. There is bright acidity on the palate with good persistence. The wine finishes with some warm spice notes as well.
