Julien Delrieu, 2016 Grolleau, Les Saint Martin
The French would normally call the red wines made with this grape (grolleau) a “vin de soif” meaning easy drinking, light styled, thirst quenching… In 2015, this takes on a deeper, darker hew with more tension and grit than one normally expects from this varietal. The tannins are still ripe and well-integrated, but this wine is a sleeper that will take on intensity after opening. Drink this with dishes that you’d drink a good Beaujolais with…in other words with anything. Just plain delicious.
