The 2014 Barbera d’Alba is a gorgeous wine, especially for this year, which was so challenging for Barbera. Silky and nuanced, with lovely aromatic presence, the 2014 is super-expressive, not to mention quite inviting. Sweet red cherry, mint, game, licorice and iron all develop effortlessly, with a closing kick of acid that gives the wine its energy. I would prefer to drink the 2014 over the next few years, as the wilder, gamier notes will likely become more prominent in time. The 2014 spent three years in barrel, with some lots in cement. 90pts
