100% Pinot Meunier grown in the villages of Chavot and Mancy. Practicing organic viticulture. 50+ year old vines.
Soils are clay, silt and sand lying over firm limestone chalk bedrock.
Barrel fermented after pressing and aged in burgundy barrels. No malolactic fermentation is allowed here to maintain the natural acidity of the grapes. Bottling and prise de mousse take place in the springtime after harvest.
Expressive, open-knit and wonderfully inviting. The natural resonance of these Meunier vines, planted in 1947 & 1964, comes through loud and clear. Ripe red plum, cedar, spice, dried flowers and mint all add nuance. Some of the fresher notes lean into the very slightly vegetal realm, which is not unusual in 2015, and yet all the elements are very nicely balanced. -VINOUS
