“Clarksburg is the pretty little sister to more attention-grabbing wine regions. The grapes grown in this region are quietly whisked away to wineries seeking the subtlety that comes from cool foogy Delta mornings, long warm days, San Francisco Bay winds and a blend of alluvial and clay-loam soils.” -LB
This Chenin Blanc is from a single vineyard that’s located about 300 yards as the crow flies from the Sacramento River. The soils are a blend of silty clay loam and decomposed granite soils. Farmed organically, and dry farmed in 2017/2018 (deficit irrigated in drought years like 2015). The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks, and then aged on its lees in barrel for one year. Lees aging (and autolysis) adds texture and viscosity to the wine, takes a bit of time to integrate into this wine with the high acidity, but it’s drinking at its perfect moment now.
