Notes from winemaker John Lockwood.
Vineyards: A blend of vineyards planted in the deep sandy soils of Contra Costa
and Lodi.
Winemaking: The lots were fermented separately, 100% whole cluster in small
open top fermenters. They were gently foot tread once a day for delicate
extraction during a cool native yeast fermentation, blended and aged for 16
months in a neutral 500L puncheon, The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Notes: Stained Glass is a wine I have wanted to make for a few years and
marks our first exploration into the grapes of Spain. The name
references the deep sand of Contra Costa and Lodi where these grapes are
grown.
The 2019 Stained Glass is a wine of softness, juiciness and richness of fruit.
Garnacha is the driver here, partnered with its Priorat compatriot Cariñena and a
touch of Tempranillo. It is energetic, boisterous and red fruited in the glass,
saturated in color and flavor, yet transparent. The power of fruit framed crisply
by sandy soils.
