Moselle Riesling Brut

The grapes for this unique sparkling Riesling come from a single parcel in the Neuberg section of Ürziger Würzgarten, a prime location offering good richness and high-toned mineral notes. Neuberg was classified as a Premier Cru under Napoleon. This is the cooler of Lippold’s two parcels in this prized growing area, which makes it ideal for Sparkling wine growing.
This wine shows delicate notes of citrus & minerals in both the nose and mouth. The texture is impressive in that it is rich with some nutty nuances, but then settles into a light-handed but very persistent wine with a dry, crisp, mineral finish.
During the 19th century up until the first world war, Sparkling Moselle (and Hock) was on par with the wines from Champagne in every respect. August Kessler who ran Veuve Cliquot for many years produced world class Sparklers from German grapes after returning and the expertise of Germans in the Champagne industry is legendary. Enno Lippold is driven to restore German Riesling to its once prestigious place in the sparkling wine world, and this wine offers many convincing reasons for this.
