Like its more famous neighbor Sancerre, Menetou-Salon has a long history of growing red grapes, specifically Pinot Noir. Normally grown in the the plots containing more clay, this varietal, like few others, provides a transparent lens through which we can see the unique terroir in which the grapes were grown and harvested from. Loire Valley red wines are one of the areas of the world where global warming has actually been a blessing, meaning that now year after year, exquisite reds are produced by talented growers where in the past, successful harvest were much more rare.
This wines shows classic sour cherry, leather and earth notes in the nose leading into a wine on the palate which offers up bright red fruit flavors, crisp acidity and mineral combined with deep, warmer smoky notes that call out for roasted meats or even braised dishes.
