1 hectare vineyard planted in 1953. Southeast exposure on classic clay/limestone soil composition. 10,000 vines/hectare density. Yields are capped at 35hl/hectare.
Les Gravières is one of if not the most prized vineyards in Santenay. It’s ideal exposure and sub-soil bring out the best in Santenay, where like in Chassagne, Pinot Noir tends to be more forward than in the villages further north.
The nose here is leans towards a more dark and brooding expression with shimmers of red fruit, earth and some underbrush aromatics. In the mouth, the mineral components are coated with medium rich fruit and plenty of tannins to support longer aging. Delicious and pure in a textbook kind of way now, this wine will repay any patience shown through aging and then some.
